Super Eagles and Hapoel Ber sheva midfielder Ugo John Ogu has stated that the team will be going to the AFCON with the aim of winning it.
Ogu who was an unused substitute in Nigeria’s 3-1 victory over Seychelles on Friday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, believes that the team will get better and will be ready for the AFCON.
“A country like ours cannot go to such a tournament and not want to win it. We are going there to make a mark and we are going there to win. We will take the matches one at a time. We are going there to fight, make our country proud and do something big.”
“As for the team, I am sure we will be ready for the tournament and play better. Remember, there are some players that are not here who will join the team for the tournament”
The former Academica Cuimbra midfielder also expressed his satisfaction that Nigeria has been able to qualify for two consecutive major tournaments and believes that it will both the morale of the team ahead of the AFCON
“We are happy that we have qualified for the Nation’s cup after previously qualifying and playing the World Cup. It’s a blessing and a morale booster. The unity in the team is high, the mentality is also different, players are eager to fight to win games for the country. We want to keep winning games, and be on top of African football”
