NPFL 19: LMC reveals new updates on broadcast Deal

The chairman of the League Management Committee Mallam Shehu Dikko has given new updates on the broadcast deal for the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL.

The chairman of the League Management Committee Mallam Shehu Dikko has given new updates on the broadcast deal for the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL.

The NPFL has been without a broadcast deal since the 2016/2017 season but Dikko believes its only a matter of time before a new deal is announced as the LMC is working tirelessly for that to happen.

‘We are working so hard to get a television deal; we are at the level of sorting out minor details in the contract. What I can assure you is that when everything is sorted out and the deal announced, this will be a massive step in the development of our league.’ Dikko told Diegwusports.com

Dikko went on to explain the importance of the broadcast insisting that this was a great avenue for the clubs to make money and give back to the clubs.

‘Without a tv deal, no deal will make enough money to give back to the clubs. 90-95% of the revenue made by the top leagues in the world is generated by tv deals. This is why trying to get a tv deal is our main priority and we are doing everything possible to get it as soon as possible.’

The LMC Chief went on to reveal that the NPFL was on track to get a tv deal for the current season but the deal fell through because of the NFF crisis.

‘We nearly made it as regards having a deal for this season but for the issues in the football of the country took us back but we are not deterred, we are working hard to get another deal. Once the tv deal is clinched we will now start investing on infrastructure because we will have enough funds to distribute to the clubs.’

Dikko who is also the 2nd vice president of the NFF also revealed that talks are on-going with the Federal and State governments on how to develop infrastructure that will be used by the league.

‘We are working with the various governments to see what they can do to take up the infrastructure and give us the spring board we need to take the league forward. We urge everyone to pray for us and wait for everything to be sorted out. I am very sure our league will move to the next level once we get the various deals I have mentioned.’
