The head coach of the Women’s National Under 20 side The Falconets, Chris Danguma has urged his players to maximize the opportunity given to them to represent Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Games.
Danguma who spoke exclusively to DiegwuSports via telephone just before the team departed NIgeria for Morocco also believes that the Falconets can win the gold medal.
‘We are well prepared for the tournament, and I think we have what it takes to win gold. As for the girls, they know what is expected of them. I urge them to maximize the opportunity given to them through this tournament.’
‘With the World Cup qualifiers around the corner, this represents a great opportunity for the girls to make an impression’
The coach went on to the girls to emulate the likes of Barcelona Forward Asisat Oshoala, and Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie who used the U20 team to gain entrance into the National team.
‘The girls know that if they excel they might just end up into the National team. And I urge them to eliminate the like of Oshoala and Oparanozie who excelled at the Junior levels.’
Nigeria’s first match is against South Africa at the Stade Academie Mohammed VI on Sunday at 8pm Morocco time (9pm in Nigeria).
The Falconets will afterwards keep a date with Cameroon at the same venue and time on Wednesday, 21st August before rounding off their group phase campaign against Zambia at the Stade Boubker Ammar-Sale on Saturday, 24th August starting from 7pm (8pm in Nigeria).
