RANGERS WRAP UP PRE-SEASON TOUR WITH COMFORTABLE WIN OVER NANKA XI

It was another routine win for Coach Benedict Ugwu and his wards as the Total/CAF Confederation cup 2019/2020 cup hopefuls, Rangers International F.C got three past a very stubborn Anambra state amateur side, Nanka United in a pre-season friendly match that took place at Neros Sports stadium, Nanka.

Coach Ugwu started only two of the players that featured in the 2-1 loss to Delta United on Thursday in Asaba but it was the amateur side that went on the offensive from the blast of the referee’ whistle but met a stiff resistance from the backline of the seven time Nigeria league champions.

As much as the trio of Osita Nwadikwa, Ifenna Okoye and Precious Ezichukwu tried in the first quarter of the game to find a way past Rangers backline anchored by Uche John and Pape Ousmane, they were stoutly rebuffed.

As the game approached the 20th minute, Rangers created over three scoring chances with Ibrahim Olawoyin, Sadick Abbas and Nnamdi Egbujuo all involved but some quality goalkeeping from Ebube Nwankwor denied the ‘Flying Antelopes’ all attempts at his goal.

However, on 25 minutes, Nwankwor could do nothing to stop an Ugwu Uwadiegwu’ fierce shot from the edge of the box from nestling at the bottom of the net while Sadick practically walked the second goal in after Olawoyin had dribbled past a sea of legs to provide a cross on the stroke of half time.

Substitute, Chinonso Eziekwe completed the rout on 81 minutes after he was set up by Ugwu.

Coach Ugwu in a post match chat said, “It was a very good match and the amateur side gave a good account of themselves. We continue our preparations for the continental game coming up next week and we hope to do well in the first leg so as to make the return leg much easier. By God’s grace we shall come back with a good result.”

Rangers will this weekend trade tackles with Gabonese side, A.S Pelican coached by Gidas Arnold Ndoumou in the first leg, first round CAF Confederation cup fixed for Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Stade D’Angondje, Libraville.
