Following the 2-2 draw between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Ukraine at the Dnipro Arena on Tuesday, Head coach Gernot Rhor has expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
The German tactician was very pleased with the quality of play displayed by both sides.
“We saw a great match. Both teams played quality football. We dominated the first half, but Ukraine played at home, so the result is natural. After the break, they did much better,”Rohr told reporters after the game.
“Would I like to win Ukraine’s national team in an official tournament? No. This team is ranked 24th in the FIFA rankings, leading the way in its Euro-2020 qualifying group and is likely to reach the finals of the continent. ”
Debutante Joe Aribo who plays for Glasgow Rangers gave Nigeria an early lead before Lille striker Victor Oshimen made it 2-0 after converting a penalty just before halftime.
However, Ukraine scored two quick goals (in the space of two minutes) midway through the second half to deny the Super Eagles a famous victory at the Dnipro Arena.
Nigeria’s 1st official match is due to take place in November when they take on Benin Republic in an AFCON 2021 qualifiers.
Nigeria are in group L alongside Benin, Lesotho and Sierra Leone.
