The National Male and Female basketball teams have moved 10 and 15 spots higher respectively in the FIBA Rankings that was released on Thursday.
Following her successive defense of its FIBA Afrobasket, D Tigress are now ranked 19th in the world, 2nd in Africa as Senegal remain ahead of Nigeria despite losing to the Afrobasket for the 2nd successive edition. Senegal are ranked 17th in the world.
Both Senegal and Nigeria are set to renew their rivalry later this year when they met for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with a place for Tokyo 2020 at stake.
As for the men’s National team, D Tigers, they make their entrance into the top 25 for the 1st time. Nigeria are now ranked 23rd in the world and 1st in Africa following their successful outing at the FIBA World Cup where it picked up a ticket for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics wining three out of five matches.
This FIBA World Ranking announcement is the icing on the cake for the Nigeria Basketball Federation who earlier on Thursday received news that members of the the D Tigers and D Tigress team will be hosted by the President if the Republic, Muhammadu Buhari on a date yet to be announced.
