In total, twenty-eight goals were scored with an away win for Akwa United in what will be remembered as a memorable New Year’s weekend in the NPFL.
Plateau United 4-0 Enyimba FC – United the contenders

Rivers United are back into the top 5 of the NPFL after a routine 2-0 win over MFM FC who have seen their 3 match unbeaten run come to an end.
Goals from Matin Ossy in the 28th minute and Nelson Esor in the 48th minute ensured that The pride of Rivers begin the new year on a winning note.
Heartland 2-1 Enugu Rangers
Rangers’ woes were compounded on Sunday when it lost to rivals Heartland FC in the Oriental Derby.
Troare Isif gave the Flying Antelopes the lead just after half time, but the lead lasted just six minutes as Abiodun Thompson equalized in the 53rd minute. The last laugh belonged to the Naze Millonaires as Abubakar Sadiq scored the winner in the 83rd minute.
Rangers are still rock bottom of the table and have just one win all season.
