Plateau United remained top of the NPFL after it played out a goalless draw with title contenders Lobi Stars at the Aper Akum Stadium, Makurdi.

Plateau United remained top of the NPFL after it played out a goalless draw with title contenders Lobi Stars at the Aper Akum Stadium, Makurdi.

It was also an action-packed matchday that saw River United move into 2nd place on the table after edging Kano Pillars in Port Harcourt.

There was also an upset in Lafia as Enyimba’s unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Nasarawa United. Here is a recap of the matchday 23 action.

 Lobi Stars 0-0 Plateau United

Lobi Stars missed a glorious chance of going top of the NPFL table after a goalless draw with league leaders Plateau United.

It was a match which saw little or no clear cut chances between but side and it is Plateau United who will be the happier of both sides as they remain unbeaten in its last 6 matches.

Rivers United 2-1 Kano Pillars

Rivers United continued its push for the NPFL title with a crucial 2-1 win over Kano Pillars in Port Hartcourt.

Konan N’gouan opened the scoring for the Pride of Rivers in the 20th minute when he scored a penalty before Emotan Cletus sealed all three points for United with an 87th-minute goal.

Rabiu Ali got a consolation for Kano Pillars in the 91st minute.

Akwa United 1-1 Warri Wolves FC

Akwa United missed the chance to close the gap on league leaders Lobi Stars after a disappointing 1-1 draw to relegation-threatened Warri Wolves.

Jumbo Wisdom scored the all-important goal for Wolves in the 70th minute from the penalty spot while Ndifreke Effiong rescued the points for the Promise Keepers.

Akwa United remain fourth on the table while Warri Wolves move up to 16th.

Nasarawa United 2-0 Enyimba

Enyimba’s winning streak came to an end as they lost to relegation-threatened Nasarawa United.

Enyimba thought they had taken the lead when Dare Olatunji put the ball into the back of the net in the 17th minute but he was judged to be in an offside position.

However, it was Nasarawa who took the lead when Chinedu Ohanachom showed some exceptional predatory instincts to score from close range after Haggai Katoh’s low effort hit the bar.

Hagai Katoh completed a brilliant performance by scoring the second goal of the match in the 89th minute.

Katsina United 1-0 Abia Warriors

Katsina United moved into the top ten of the NPFL after edging Abia Warriors at the Mohamed Dikko Stadium.

An early goal from Joseph Atule in the fifth minute was all Katsina United needed to take all three points in a match that marked the return of fans at the Mohamed Dikko.

The breakthrough was obtained in the 20th minute when Konan N’gouan converted a penalty.

Jigawa Golden Stars 2 – 1 Wikki Tourist

Jigawa Golden Stars got a win in its fight to avoid relegation after coming from behind to edge Wikki Tourists.

Promise Damala gave the Tourists in the second minute but Ibrahim Saleh equalized for Jigawa just after the break. Abdulahi Lala completed the come back for Jigawa who is still in the relegation zone despite the win.
