Nasarawa United FC are set to face Plateau United this weekend in the NPFL Matchday 24 despite the passing away of its defender Chineme Martins last weekend.
This information was made known to DiegwuSports by club media director Eche Amos on Thursday from the club’s base in Lafia.
According to him, the directive from the club’s management is that the team though not fully recovered psychologically will play this weekend to honor the memory of the late Chineme Martins.
‘We will be honoring this weekend’s fixture against Plateau United’ Eche told DiegwuSports.
‘The players are not yet fully recovered from last weekend’s tragedy but after a series of meetings between management and the players we believe the best thing to do is keep playing so as to honor the memory of Chineme Martins’
When asked about the mental state of the players, Eche insisted that the players were getting better and felt they are ready for the challenge of facing Plateau United this weekend.
However, Eche admitted that it will be an emotional match.
‘The players are still waking up to the reality that they have lost a colleague and also a friend. It’s going to be tough but so far at training, they’ve looked good. Let me also say that the club management took a decision to keep playing after consulting the players who feel they are up to the task.
‘It will surely be an emotional match but we are ready to give in our best to honor Chineme Martins’ Eche said.
Nasarawa United are currently in fine form as they have lost just one of its last five matches winning four in the process.
