Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr is set to hand called ups to uncapped players ahead of the International friendly against Ukraine with the list of invited players to be announced on August 30.
A source close to the Nigeria Football Federation told DiegwuSports that head coach Gernot Rohr plans to use the match and indeed the camping to take a look at some players which have been on his radar for a while now.
‘Definitely, there will be some new faces, especially with the retirement of Mikel Obi. There are also some players who have been on the coaches radar who will be invited to camp.
‘Our next competitive match is in November against Benin so it gives us the chance to try out new players especially for some positions that we were found wanting during the AFCON.’ the source told DiegwuSports.
Our source also confirmed that the much expected list of players called up for the Ukraine friendly will be announced on August 30.
‘The season just started and the technical department led by Coach Gernot Rohr will use the 1st new weeks of the season to access which players to call to camp. The list should be ready by the 30’
Meanwhile, the scheduled friendly against Ukraine in September has been moved to Dnipro according to reports on the Ukrainian media.
The match was earlier stated to be played in Kiev when announced last week by the NFF but it now looks like the match will take place on September 10th at the Dnipro Arena.
Nigeria will be aiming to continue their good run following their brilliant outing at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where the Super Eagles camp third.
Nigeria will also use the friendly to prepare for it’s upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifiers against Benin scheduled for October as well as the World Cup qualifying series.
