Super Eagles and Shanghai Shenhua striker Odion Ighalo is happy to be back to full fitness and is eager to get the ground running again in the Chinese Super League reports DiegwuSports.
Ighalo in an exclusive chat with DiegwuSports couldn’t hide his joy of being back to training.
‘I am grateful to God for healing, and I am so happy that the injury is now in the past.’ Ighalo told DiegwuSports.
Ighalo has not played a competitive match since limping off in Nigeria’s 3rd place match 1-0 win over Tunisia as the Eagles finished 3rd at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Coincidentally Ighalo scores the only goal of the match and ended the tournament as top scorer with five goals. Ighalo has also scored sixteen goals in thirty-five matches for the Super Eagles.
The 30 year old’s involvement in this season’s Chinese Super League has been limited by injuries but Ighalo says he is focused in doing the best he can to help the club.
‘As a footballer, it’s frustrating to sit out especially due to injuries. It’s tough but right now I have put that behind me and I am focusing on giving in my best to help my team.’
Ighalo has so far scored six goals in his last seven matches for Shanghai Shenhua who are 13th on the Chinese Super League table.
Ighalo also thanked his fans for their morale support during his rehabilitation.
‘My fans have been amazing, the kept sending me heart warming messages all through its difficult time. I want to thank them specially. They kept me going.’
One thing is certain, Ighalo’s return to fitness will help Shanghai Shenhua fit the remainder of the season.
