TotalCAFCL: Enyimba FC Vows To Fight Till The End

Enyimba International center back, Ifeanyi Anaemena has vowed that he and his teammates will give their all in the 2nd leg of the CAF Champions League playoffs against Sudanese champions Al Hilal.

Despite failing to take advantage at home in the 1st leg in Aba which ended goalless, Anaemena believes that the People’s Elephant can still qualify.

“The match is not over, we will go over there [Omdurman] and fight for the group stage ticket. If they were able to come here and get a draw, we can also go there and get a win.” Anaemena told DiegwuSports.

Enyimba were unable to break Al Hilal in the 1st leg despite being a man down for over 60 minutes of the match following a 1st half sending off for the visitors and despite creating so many scoring chances. However, the former Giwa FC defender believes that the team has put the disappointment of the 1st leg behind them and are fully focused on getting the win in the 2nd leg.

“We have put the result behind us, it was a very unfortunate one because we deserved better than the draw. However, it has happened, it has happened and we must now focus on wining away from home which is not impossible.”

The odds of qualifying for the Group stages are not in favor of the two time CAF Champions League winners as they have won only once in their last ten 10 away matches in all CAF competitions. Their only win was during the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup where Enyimba defeated Djoliba of Bamako 1-0. Anaemena has urged his teammates to defy the odds and go into the match with a winning mentality.

“The odds are meant to be defied. We are going into the match like it is a final and not looking at the stats. We will go into the match with a positive attitude and high spirits. If we play to our strength, I am sure we will win”

The 2nd leg will take place on September 29th at the Al Hilal Stadium Omdurman at 18:30 Nigeria Time.
