It was a disappointing night for Nigeria Champions Enyimba FC after they were eliminated from the CAF Champions League following a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Sudanese champions Al Hilal in Ondurman.
Following a goalless 1st leg a fortnight ago at Aba, the People’s Elephant needed to avoid defeat to stand a chance of qualifying for the group stages but a second half strike by Al Hilal means that Enyimba will now step down to the CAF Confederation Cup.
The NPFL champions will play in the playoffs of the CAF Confederation Cup and could still redeem its continental season if they can win the tournament.
Nigeria’s other continental participant Rangers International are also through to the CAF Confederation Cup Playoffs after defeating AS Pelican 4-3 on aggregate on Sunday at Enugu.
The draws for the playoffs of the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Champions League group stages will take place in October.
