Nigeria midfielder Ngozi Okobi has bemoaned the state of women’s football and has made a plea for ‘a better structure’
In an exclusive interview with DiegwuSports, the four time AFCON winner expressed concerns about the future of the Women’s game in Nigeria
“We need a good structure in women football. I don’t know where female football in Nigeria is heading to any longer, I don’t see it getting better until thing ate done the right way. No hope.” Okobi told DiegwuSports
Okobi who currently plays for Eskilstuna United in Sweden revealed that she has no regrets about the Super Falcons outing at the 2019 FIFA World Cup and that she wasn’t surprised with the 2nd round exit.
“I think we did well, I am happy with our performance. I wasn’t surprised we lost out to Germany in the round of 16. When I look back at the tournament, I have no regrets, maybe the lack of more quality friendlies” Okobi said
Okobi was part of the Super Falcons side that reached the round of 16 at the 2019 FIFA World Cup losing to Germany. She played all four matches.
The midfielder is currently having a good season in Sweden with her club Eskilstuna United and she is relishing the challenge of playing in Sweden.
“Been a great season for me. The journey has been so smooth, we get better and better everytime. I am optimistic that we will soon start winning trophies”
Eskilstuna are currently 5th in the Damsallvaskan on 31 points, 5 points from the last Champions League spot.
Okobi is also expected to play a great role for the Super Falcons as they prepare for the Final 2020 Olympic Qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire.
