RIVERS ANGELS ARE 2018/2019 NWFL CHAMPIONS

Rivers Angels FC were crowned 2018/2019 Nigeria Women Football league (NWFL) Champions after a hard fought 1-0 win over Confluence Queens of Lokoja on Sunday.

A 3rd minute spot kick from Cecilia Nku was all the Jewel of Rivers needed to edge their opponent after Chinaza Enuma had handled inside the box and claim their 7th league title after two seasons.

The Ladies from Kogi had an opportunity to draw level from the spot in the 23rd minute after Ezekiel Blessing had handled inside the box but Precious Christopher’s effort hit the woodwork.

The Jewel of Rivers kept the attacking force of Confluence at bay as they held on for the remaining minutes of the encounter to emerge Champions of this season’s campaign.

Captain of the day, Evelyn Nwabuoku in a chat with the Rivers Angels Media said it would have been terrible if the team had ended the season without a trophy.

“I am really excited with today’s victory because it’s been long we won a league title,” said Nwabuoku.

“We already lost in the final of the Women’s Aiteo Cup and this was the only opportunity we had to redeem ourselves.

“It would have been very bad for a team like Rivers Angels to go an entire season without a title and I’m glad we came out victorious today,” she added.

An elated Team manager of the Jewel of Rivers, Matilda Oyiloha said it it felt good reclaiming the league title.

“Words can’t express how I feel right now,” began Oyiloha.

“I have been dreaming of getting back to our glory days and I’m glad we got back to our winning ways.

“We’ve had terrible appearances in the NWFL Super 4 for the past two seasons but that didn’t make me lose confidence in my team and I’m excited our efforts was crowned with this title today,” she added.

As announced by the NWFL, winners of this season’s campaign will not only go home with a Three million Naira prize money but also a one week Tour in Spain and this is in collaboration with the La Liga Women, a development Head coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon says will help him in exposing his girls.

“I am actually the happiest man here today,” Okon said after the game.

“The most interesting thing about today’s win is the fact that we’ll be traveling to Spain. A trip I will use to expose my girls to more techniques of the game.

“So I’m really excited that we won today even though we could have won with a better goal margin,” he added.
